It is right off of a Main Street but after a few twists and turns down small alleyways you come to the door. It is fine once you know where you are but initially... Good luck!
Morocco is the farther place we have traveled from our own culture. It is a huge 'culture shock' and takes some getting used to.
After checking in, getting the map of the city with explanation, and getting settled, we chilled out for a bit. Since it was late we decided to just walk the market in 'new city' (outside the original walls) to get some snacks. This area and culture definitely takes some getting used to. Last night, even though it was still light out, it felt strange, unsafe, and awkward.
Starting out today felt the same way but it got better as the day went on.
There is not much to do in the area of 'old city' and we were able to get 90% of it accomplished today. We visited Palace Bahis and Badi, the Saadian Tombs, and Hassan II Mosque. All architecturally beautiful with gorgeous tile work.
We walked through the main square Jemaa El- Fnaa Square and around the Souks. The Souks are their central market. Here everyone and their mother is trying to sell you something, impress you enough to get your attention to sell you something, or jut pretty much asking for money. It was a little tiresome- as our one German roommate put it- and an experience. When we first entered, Bill said, "It looks like a movie!" And he was right, it really did. Think Indiana Jones...
We came back after that because it was overwhelming, crowded, and downright hot! We were able to chill out for a bit and then headed to 'new city' for dinner at Cheese Me. Lets just tall about how everyone in Morocco should of been eating there because it was so good! The people who own the place are the cutest!! They spoke French ( which apparently is a somewhat dominant language here- weird) as well as English. I got to use some of my French knowledge (yay!) It was just so nice. Relaxing. The woman who served us was adorable and so hospitable! P.S. the food was really good too! We ate an app that neither of us can remember the name to. It was a tostit with an insanely thing piece of tomato, some peppers, duck, and goat cheese AMAZING! Then we split a three cheese fondue - move over Melting Pot! And lastly we shared a chocolate lava cake with caramel ice cream. SO FULL!!! After chatting it up with the two lovelies we told them we will be back in on Thursday and said 'Bonnie nuit' on the way out. Can't wait to go back!
( sorry, food pix are on Bills phone)
Tomorrow we are heading out bright and early on an excursion to the Ouzoud Waterfalls. Yay cold water :)
