We headed back in to the city for our first stop- lunch :) Trip advisor raved about this place and it was in the top 3 for lunch. I had a salami and cheese on focaccia and it was the largest sandwich. I couldn't finish it. I made Bill eat a few bites so I didn't waste more than a mouthful or two. He had, what we are assuming, pork with sliced parmesan, lettuce, and tomato. Thank god we were walking around again so I could walk it all off.
We went to the last basilica in Florence called the St.Croce. Here is where Galileo, Niccolini, Rossini, and Michelangelo are buried. It was very intricate and very large. Sadly the front, where the alter is, was being renovated but the parts that we could see... I can't imagine how gorgeous it looks complete.
The majority of the early evening was spent in line to go in to the La Academia Museum to see Michelangelo's David. TOTALLY WORTH IT! There of course were other pieces there by Michelangelo and other known Italian artists, but he was center stage and the draw to the museum. Ah-mazing! He is ginormous to begin with but is up on a block so he seems even taller. To help you understand the magnitude, his hand is bigger than my head. The detail and dedication put into the creation is breathtaking. You can see the tendons in his neck, hands, and veins running down his arm and hand. The muscles, the facial expression... I just can't say enough.
Gelato- me chocolate and peanut, coconut. Bill Florence cream ( better than vanilla) and buon talenta (biscotti)
Dinner was in a VERY tiny restaurant called Il Ristorio dei Perditempo. Bill had the pasta with boar ragu and I had beef stew. It was just fall apart, melt in your mouth beef and potatoes in a very tasty gravy. Again, with wine and bread. We shockingly decided we didn't want gelato for dessert and stopped back at the market. Sadly, no muffins so we got a cream puff to share and Harbo gumming alligators that we just had to have! Who can pass up on gummi alligators?!?
Tomorrow is the half day wine tour in Chianti and I can't wait!
Observations-
1) Mc Donald's is like Starbucks- plentiful and always crowded
2) too many women are wearing heels, platforms, platform heels, on these not flat and ankle rolling roadways. I'm having issues walking in flip flops...
3) there are so many beggars here and they are in your face and blunt. If some Italians find out you are American they will just come out and ask you for money. Awkward. Clearly we as a nation are suckers.
My hair dryer kicked it and now I am forced to get creative. Especially because Florence had forced me to shower at night since it is so stinking hot during the day. Heather, I will try the twist in your honor tomorrow ;)
Also, Bill confiscated the yellow glasses as soon as he found out I brought them. Guess what fell through the only hole in the train when we were walking through to our car.... No seriously, that's how we roll. Lol
